Favorites of the Senses

It's snowing softly outside & this seems like the perfect time to add this:

An enlightening past time is to make a list of favorite things that impact the senses. Not only does it provide a challenging exercise for the mind & memory, but it sharpens our appreciation of these golden moments in time.

For example, one person's list of ten favorite sounds: a distant train whistle; a mother talking to her new baby; the scrunch of leaves on a bright autumn day; sea gulls crying; a hound baying in the woods at night; the absolute silence of a mountain lake at sunset; a crackling fire on a bitter day; a stadium crowd singing the national anthem; the screech of an airplane's tires as they touch down; his wife's voice at morning.

Try the exercise for favorite sounds, smells or sights. You may learn something about yourself.

7 Wonders of the World

A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present
" Seven Wonders of the World ." Though there were some disagreements,
The following received the most votes:

1. Egypt 's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China 's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher n! oted tha t one student
had not finished her paper yet. So she  asked the girl if
she was having trouble with her  list. The girl replied,
"Yes, a little.  I couldn't quite make up my mind
because  there were so many."

The teacher said, "W! ell, tell us what you have, and
maybe we can help.

"The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the
' Seven  Wonders of the World '   are:

1. To See

2. To Hear

3. To Touch

4. To Taste

5. To  Feel

6. To Laugh

7. And to Love."

The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.
The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that
we take for granted  are truly wondrous!

A gentle reminder --
that the most precious things in life
cannot be built by hand or bought by man.

Something Humerous

>
>To my darling husband,
>
>Before you return from your overseas trip I just want to let you know about the small accident I had with the pick up truck when I turned into the driveway. Fortunately not too bad and I really didn't get hurt, so please don't worry too much about me.
>
>I was coming home from Wal-Mart, and when I turned into the driveway I accidentally pushed down on the accelerator instead of the brake. The garage door is slightly bent but the pick up fortunately came to a halt when it bumped into your car.
>
>I am really sorry, but I know with your kind-hearted personality you will forgive me. You know how much I love you and care for you my sweetheart. I am enclosing a picture for you.
>
>I cannot wait to hold you in my arms again.
>
>
>
>P.S. Your girlfriend called.
>Your loving wife.

Holding

Never think that God's delays are God's denials. Hold on; hold fast, hold out. Patience is genius.

What I Learned Today

The only true gift is a portion of yourself.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

Friends are angels who lift us up

to our feet when our own

wings have trouble remembering

how to fly.

"The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being.  His heart withers if it does not answer another heart.  His mind shrinks away if he hears only the echoes of his own thoughts & finds no other inspiration."

Love - From an Ann Landers Column written in 1985

"Love is friendship that has caught fire.  It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing & forgiving.  It is loyalty through good & bad times. It settles for less than perfection & makes allowances for human weakness.

Love is content with the present, it hopes for the future, but doesn't brook over the past.  It's the day-in & day-out chronicle of irritations, problems,, compromises, small disappointments, big victories & working toward common goals.

If you have love in your life, it can make up for a great many things you lack. If you don't have it, no matter what else there is, it's not enough."

What is Really There

What is really there is what is there to me

my whole entire world is made up of what it is I see

give us all a brush & tell us to paint a view

no two will ever be the same for what you see is you.

Love is a Verb

Want to improve your relationships?  See love as a verb rather than as a feeling.

               ~Stephen R. Covey, The Adversity Advantage~

Love is like playing the piano. First you must learn to play by the rules, then you must forget the rules & play from your heart.

For all the people who come into my life...

"See the friend beside you on your path, believing in you & reaching out to lend you strength of the heart."

"A real friend knows when to listen, when to stop listening, when to talk, when to stop talking, when to pour wine, when to stop pouring wine & just hand over the bottle."

Helping Me to Grow

There are a few websites that I have come across recently that I would like to share.  Of course, they want you to buy their books, but if you sign up for their free newsletter & articles, you can obtain access to a wealth of information whether you are single, in a relationship, married, divorced, etc.

If you dig deep enough through these websites, you will probably come across a few things that apply to yourself  or the opposite sex like I did (don't let the titles turn you off - everyone can really learn from them).  I have to admit that I have learned a great deal about myself in the past few months - not all of it comfortable to admit.  Keep clicking on their links and articles - keep digging until you find what suits you.

Reasons

"The heart has reasons that reason cannot know."

            ~ Pascal ~

"Don't walk in front of me,

I may not follow ~

Don't walk behind me,

I may not lead ~

Just walk beside me

and be my friend."

               ~ unknown

We cannot really love anybody with

whom we never laugh."

                    ~Agnes Repplier~

Women were made...

Woman was made from the rib of man.

She was not created from his head to top him.

Nor from his feet to be stepped on.

She was made from his side to be equal to him.

From beneath his arm to be protected by him.

Near his heart to be loved by him.

Who

Who do you turn to

when the only person in the world

that can stop you from crying,

is exactly the one making you cry?

Watch

Watch your thoughts, they become words.

Watch your words, they become actions.

Watch your actions, they become habits.

Watch your habits, they become character.

Watch your character, they become destiny.
